How can two people live comfortably in just  60 (sqm)?

In a small-scale residence, what truly shapes the living experience is often the balance of proportion, circulation, and how each function is positioned within the space.

This project began with an understanding of the couple’s daily life. They wanted a more open shared area, sufficient storage, and a home that would feel visually calm the moment they returned. We therefore reoriented the TV wall and introduced a clean, black volume that integrates the television wall, dining and kitchen functions, and storage into one unified element.

This black volume becomes the visual core of the home, naturally dividing the shared space into layers of black and white. Black brings order and structure, while white creates breathing room for light and openness. Together, they allow the 18-ping interior to maintain a clear sense of scale and spatial balance.

Another very real challenge in a small home is storage.

We reorganized the layout to create an independent storage room and walk-in closet, allowing luggage, household items, clothing, and everyday belongings to be gathered and concealed in dedicated spaces. For us, good storage means giving everything a place to belong, so that after daily use, the home can easily return to a clean and composed state.

Many homeowners hesitate when it comes to using large amounts of black, worrying that the space may feel too dark or heavy.

But black can have many different expressions.

Textured black stone, warm dark wood grain, and crisp black metal each respond differently to light, creating distinct depths and tactile qualities. When these materials are carefully placed, black can actually make the space feel more grounded while enhancing the brightness of the natural light entering from outside.

The living room is therefore able to fully face the largest window in the home, allowing daylight to flow directly into the shared area. With simplified walls and a more open circulation path, the view can extend from the living room all the way toward the dining and kitchen areas, making the 18-ping interior feel more complete and spacious.

Finally, passing through the softly curved archway leads into the bedroom. Indirect lighting at the headboard keeps the illumination low and gentle, allowing the rhythm of the space to gradually shift from the openness of the public area into a quieter, more restful atmosphere.
