Sabai Today

Located inside Yong’an Market in Taichung, Sabai Today combines a Thai lifestyle concept store on the ground floor with a brand office on the second floor. For us, the most interesting part of this project was exploring how familiar impressions of Thailand could be reinterpreted into a space that feels culturally recognizable, yet still closely connected to everyday life.

Rather than directly reproducing traditional Thai motifs, we began with color, material, light, and atmosphere, using a subtle sense of humor to reshape the visual language of Thailand into something uniquely Sabai Today.

The large storefront window along the arcade becomes the most direct interface between the brand and the street. Woven rugs, timber blinds, and warm wood textures form a quiet backdrop, allowing the curated products to take center stage. The overall palette is built around a Thai milk-tea-inspired orange-brown tone, complemented by beige, natural wood, and darker accents to create a warm, relaxed, and slightly exotic atmosphere.

The colors are intentionally restrained. They reflect the warmth of everyday Thailand through sunlight, timber, textiles, greenery, and the slow rhythm of an afternoon. We wanted visitors to feel something familiar when they enter, while also experiencing a subtle sense of having momentarily stepped away from Taichung.

The second-floor office continues the color language of the retail space while allowing for greater freedom in its composition. A richer mix of colors and furniture gives the workspace a stronger sense of character and prevents it from feeling overly conventional.

The original balcony was also reconfigured and enlarged to create a more generous outdoor area, filled with tropical plants that visually connect the workspace with greenery. Stepping outside for a little sunlight, looking at the plants, or simply taking a short pause becomes part of the working rhythm—something especially valuable for a team that relies on continuous creativity.
